Episode 5: First Orgasms

I sorta had my first large geographic feature inspired orgasm yesterday.

Oh my god. The last two weeks have been madness. Dead friends, moving to other cities, blown head gaskets, school payments due. Crazy. The fact that the Callahans have survived without stabbing someone else or each other is a legitimate miracle.

But now Bridget is settled in Wilmington NC, looking for a job, swimming in the ocean, and getting hickeys. Carey got rescued from the side of a Virginian highway where she rediscovered Tori Amos in a late night Dennys, and will be hosting another taping on 8/21 at Touch. So it's about time they posted the episode from 2 weeks ago, and they apologize profusely for having lives and not working harder on this podcast they don't get paid for.

For some reason, the sound is a little sketchy on this one. Seriously, when is one of them going to start fucking a sound engineer?

Awkward Sex Show Live 7/24 at Touch!

Darlings!

This Tuesday July 24th, 8pm, we will be recording our next show in the basement of Touch. I can't promise there will be ice cream cake again, sorry.

The theme for this week is First Orgasms. That can mean, the first one you accidentally had, gave yourself, gave another person, got from another person, ect. So let me know if you've got a story, we're filling up the bill now.

Also, this will be Bridget's last live show before she moves South, so don't screw this up for her okay?

Finally, some of our friends are running a kickstarter to help fund a pilot episode of Cleveland standup, which includes Carey, so you should probably go give them some money, since we charge you nothing, NOTHING, for hours of entertainment and masturbation we've already given you.

Awkward Sex Show Episode 4: Injury and Illness

Note: I've never had to attach a trigger warning to something before, so I have no idea what the protocol for one of those is, but this episode, especially the second storyteller, definitely requires one

When we started doing this podcast, it was definitely billed as a comedy show. And for the most part it is just that. But the thing with talking about sex is that in addition to the parts we can laugh about, there's also a lot of pain and humiliation and emotional trauma that can go along with anyone's sex life. We're talking very heavy emotional boundaries, love and rejection, and also a lot of power politics, a lot of societal expectations and courtesies and taboos.

So there is a moment in this show where things get very serious, and I don't know if we as hosts handled it correctly, because we weren't expecting it. I certainly would have liked to have been more prepared for it, I had no idea how to respond, how do you ever know how to respond to stories like that? After the show, there was a lot of discussion about whether it was appropriate for a show like ours, what the best thing to do was, how uncomfortable it made everyone feel. And I'm not going to lie, it made me really uncomfortable too. I even felt a little bit of anger at this person, for making me feel so uncomfortable. I think that's a natural reaction. But that's why it's important to not censor stories like this one. Because we have a tendency as a species to pretend things that make us uncomfortable don't exist.

If you follow comedy at all, then you know about the Tosh "scandal" that happened this week, and the controversy about what is appropriate to joke about, and where a comedian's responsibility to his audience lies. Without going into my own opinions of the situation, and you can google that on your own if you'd like to catch up, I would like to offer up this episode as a counter point. On one side you have a comedian making a joke about rape involving someone else. On the opposite side, you have a comedian using jokes to deal with her own.

I'd like to thank our audience at Touch that night for being smart, understanding, supportive, and staying in the thick of it with us right to the end. If you'd like to come see us, and experience how crazy this fucking shit can get, we'll be recording our next episode at Touch, Tuesday 7/24 at 8pm. - B

Awkward Sex Show Episode 3: Faking It

That's a rainbow we saw from the yard as we were waiting to get started on this episode. Just saying.

It's weird to step back sometimes and realize how used to following structures we are. Like, for instance, there's no reason this recording ever has to be exactly an hour. We're not trying to squeeze it into some sort of schedule. There's literally no pressure for time restriction at all. BUT I am freaking out that I can not make it exactly 60 minutes. We never even talked about whether it would be 60, or 90, or 30. But so last week, I just couldn't shave those last seven minutes off. And this week I tried to set an alarm and everything, but after edits, we're 50 minutes. That's driving me nuts. I almost want to attach 10 minutes of gratuitous George Michael songs. But I won't.

Tonight we have Brian telling a story about one of the worst "first" times I've heard, but in a way that reflects well on his character. Luanne talks about bodily fluids slasher film style. And Maria brings the sincerity, hardcore.

This whole week has been one of too much sincerity, something with the moon maybe? It's like we all molted our hardened emotional shells this week. Well, I'm ready for my exoskeleton back please.

Awkward Sex Show Episode 2: Parents

Dear everyone, I'd like to introduce you to my friend - Princess Muzzle Bride.

Also, can I just add that in searching for a picture of a stuffed horse, I learned way more about horse cremation than I intended to. I don't even know why.

This week we go into embarrassing, or in some cases just impressive, stories involving parents - our parents, your parents, other peoples' parents. The audio is way better, because we were doing it inebriated from our Dad's living room table. Special thanks to Tim Cornett, Jesse Alison, and Emmett Milbanks.

Jesse has a show tonight, 6/27, at Mahall's in Lakewood - rock n roll, comedy, and bowling. He will be doing all three, I guess.

Tim will be performing next at the Grog Shop's Tuesday Comedy, July 3rd. He will also be hosting July 6th at Bon Bon in Ohio City, with Carey on that bill as well.

Emmett's Hobo Odyssey can be followed here at http://hobodyssey.com/
Seriously, that guy was just some couch surfer my friend hosted. God Bless America.

This Sunday we'll be tackling the theme of FAKIN' IT. Let me know what you've got and we'll get you on!

EPISODE 2: PARENTS

Upcoming show this Sunday

This upcoming week's theme is Parents. Any stories involving parents, doesn't have to be your own. To make this even creepier, we will be recording this from OUR parents' house, where my dad will probably be in the other room on the computer trying to ignore his daughters' conversation. But you know, it's cool. If you'd like to come over, get drunk with us and tell stories, message us. ONLY people who are telling stories can come. This is a limited space event.

The First Post is Always the Deepest

For their debut post, Bridget would like you to know that she is not sorry about that Twilight Breaking Dawn widget on the sidebar, because there is pretty much nothing better than Twilight quotes out of context.
